Warning to Pakistan: Cross-border terrorism will invite consequences
India has strongly condemned Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statement on Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), describing it as “hypocrisy at its worst.” India exercised its Right of Reply in response to Sharif’s address, which raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan addressed the UNGA, stating that Pakistan’s history of cross-border terrorism and human rights abuses makes its criticism of India unacceptable. “It is ridiculous that a nation that committed genocide in 1971 and persecuted its minorities relentlessly even now, dare speak about intolerances and phobias,” Mangalanandan said.
Mangalanandan emphasized that Pakistan’s real intention is to covet Indian territory and disrupt elections in Jammu and Kashmir. India warned Pakistan that cross-border terrorism will inevitably invite consequences.
Sharif’s speech urged India to reverse the abrogation of Article 370 to secure durable peace and enter into a dialogue for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue. However, India maintains that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country.
The exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. India has consistently rejected Pakistan’s attempts to internationalize the dispute, emphasizing its commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity.
