Key Allegations:
- Illegal allotment of 14 sites worth ₹56 crore to Siddaramaiah’s wife
- Criminal conspiracy and dishonest misappropriation of property
- Cheating and forgery
- Abuse of power and corruption
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is facing a major challenge as the Lokayukta Police registered an FIR against him in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment case on Friday. This development comes after a special court in Bengaluru ordered a probe into allegations of illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites worth ₹56 crore to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi.
The FIR names Siddaramaiah as accused number one, along with his wife, brother-in-law, and another individual. The allegations include criminal conspiracy, dishonest misappropriation of property, and cheating. The Karnataka High Court upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s sanction to investigate Siddaramaiah, paving the way for the FIR.
Siddaramaiah remains defiant, stating he won’t resign and claiming the case is politically motivated. “I have done no wrong. This is for the first time a political case is being registered against me,” he said. The BJP has demanded his resignation, calling the Congress government “corrupt” and accusing them of trying to evade the law.
In a related move, the Karnataka government withdrew its general consent for the CBI to investigate cases in the state, citing bias. The BJP slammed this decision, saying it’s an attempt to avoid accountability.
The investigation is expected to uncover more details about the alleged wrongdoing. As the probe unfolds, Siddaramaiah’s future as Chief Minister hangs in the balance.
