Telangana Minister Konda Surekha has apologized to actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya for her contentious remarks about their divorce. However, she remains resolute in her allegations against Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader KT Rama Rao, claiming he was responsible for the couple’s divorce and had a history of tapping actresses’ phones and blackmailing them.
The controversy began when Ms. Surekha stated that KTR’s actions led to the divorce, sparking a fierce backlash from the couple, their families, and the film industry. Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu both released statements denying any political involvement in their divorce and emphasizing the importance of respecting individuals’ privacy.
Veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya’s father, condemned Ms. Surekha’s comments, calling them “completely irrelevant and false.” Top actors Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Allu Arjun, and Nani also criticized the minister’s remarks.
Ms. Surekha later clarified that her intention was to question KTR’s alleged belittling of women, not to hurt Samantha’s sentiments. She unconditionally retracted her comments, acknowledging the actress’s strength and self-power.
KTR has sent a defamation notice to Ms. Surekha, accusing the ruling Congress of “disgusting and nauseating politics” and requesting party leader Rahul Gandhi to send the minister to a mental health specialist.
This public spat highlights the intersection of politics and celebrity culture in India, raising concerns about privacy, respect, and the responsible use of power.
