Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has sparked a debate on India-Pakistan relations by questioning the benefits and losses for both countries ahead of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Pakistan for the SCO Summit 2024. Sibal took to social media to share his thoughts, asking “What has India gained? What has Pakistan lost?”
Jaishankar’s upcoming visit to Pakistan marks the first time an Indian Foreign Minister will attend the SCO Summit in nine years. The visit follows Pakistan’s invitation to India to attend the in-person meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) in August. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed India’s participation, stating that Jaishankar will lead a delegation to Pakistan for the summit scheduled for October 15-16.
The SCO Summit 2024 is significant, as it brings together member states to discuss key issues such as terrorism, climate change, and connectivity. In his remarks at the SCO Summit in Kazakhstan’s Astana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need to combat terrorism and address climate change.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) comprises nine member states, including India, Pakistan, China, Russia, and Iran. The organization aims to promote regional cooperation and stability. However, Sibal’s questions highlight the complexities of India-Pakistan relations and the need for clarity on the benefits and losses for both nations.
