New Delhi: Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan’s highly anticipated film, Vettaiyan, hit theaters on October 10 and has made a remarkable debut at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the movie has raked in an impressive ₹30 crore across India on its first day.
The Tamil version of the film contributed significantly to its overall collection, grossing ₹26.15 crore. The Telugu shows earned ₹3.2 crore, while the Hindi and Kannada shows collected ₹60 lakh and ₹50 lakh, respectively. Vettaiyan recorded an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 59.43% on its opening day.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan marks the reunion of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan on screen after 33 years. The film’s cast includes Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and VJ Rakshan.
At the audio launch event, Rajinikanth shared an inspiring anecdote about Amitabh Bachchan’s resilience during a financial crisis in the 1990s. He recounted how Bachchan worked 18 hours a day to pay off his debts and eventually bought back his Juhu home and additional properties.
Film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave Vettaiyan 2.5 out of 5 stars in his NDTV review, stating, “The outcome may be a tad erratic in terms of pace and emphasis, but overall, what the film pieces together is not all forgettable.”
Vettaiyan tells the story of Kanyakumari SP Athiyan, a police officer who uncovers a larger conspiracy while investigating a drug case. Produced by A Subaskaran and GKM Tamil Kumaran under Sun Pictures, the film has generated significant buzz among fans and critics alike.
With its impressive opening day collection, Vettaiyan is poised to make a mark at the box office. Will the film maintain its momentum in the coming days? Only time will tell.
