The South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2024 unfolded in Dubai with a dazzling display of glamour and talent over the weekend, honoring the finest from the Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam film industries. The event, held on September 14 and 15, spotlighted an impressive array of cinematic excellence, with stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Nayanthara, and Tovino Thomas emerging as the shining stars of the night.

Telugu and Kannada Cinema’s Moment in the Spotlight

The festivities began on Saturday with a focus on Telugu and Kannada cinema. The Telugu film industry was well-represented, with “Dasara” standing out as a major winner. Nani’s captivating performance in “Dasara” earned him the Best Actor award, while Keerthy Suresh was named Best Actress for the same film. Srikanth Odela received the Best Director accolade for his direction of “Dasara,” which also won Best Movie.

In the Kannada segment, the spotlight was on “Kaatera,” which secured the Best Film award. Rakshit Shetty’s role in “Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A” earned him the Best Actor award, and Chaithra Achar won Best Actress for her performance in “Toby.” Hemanth Rao’s direction of “Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A” was recognized as Best Director, and the film’s strong showing continued with awards for Best Actor in a Negative Role and Best Music Director.

Tamil Cinema’s Celebrated Achievements

Sunday’s gala shifted focus to Tamil cinema, where “Jailer,” directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and starring Rajinikanth, was celebrated as Best Movie. Chiyaan Vikram’s powerful performance in “Ponniyin Selvan: II” earned him the Best Actor award, and Nayanthara was honored as Best Actress for her role in “Annapoorani.” Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also made headlines, taking home the Best Actress (Critics) award for her role in “Ponniyin Selvan: II.” Sivakarthikeyan received the Best Actor (Critics) award for his role in “Maaveeran.”

Notably, the Tamil industry recognized several emerging talents and seasoned stars alike, with awards such as Best Director (Critics) going to Arun Kumar Sonaimuthu for “Chithha,” and Best Actor in a Comedy Role awarded to Yogi Babu for “Jailer.” The Rising Star accolade was given to Sundeep Kishan, while the Extraordinary Performer of the Year award went to SJ Suryah.

Malayalam Cinema’s Triumphs

Malayalam cinema also had its share of glory at SIIMA 2024. “Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam” was celebrated as Best Movie, with Jude Anthany Joseph securing the Best Director award for “2018.” Tovino Thomas received the Best Actor award for his compelling performance in “2018,” while Anaswara Rajan was named Best Actress for her role in “Neru.” Joju George’s performance in “Iratta” earned him the Best Actor (Critics) award.

The Malayalam awards also highlighted new talent, with Rohit M. G. Krishnan winning Best Debut Director for “Iratta” and Anjana Jayaprakash honored as Best Debut Actress for “Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum.” The Best Debut Actor award went to Siju Sunny for “Romancham.”
