New Delhi – In a glorious moment for Indian cinema, Rishab Shetty was felicitated with the National Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his captivating performance in Kantara. President Droupadi Murmu presented the esteemed award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Shetty’s wife, Pragathi, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt video of the special moment, showcasing the actor proudly holding his award. Her caption simply read, “Proud moment.” This gesture reflected the joy and pride of the moment, resonating with fans worldwide.

In his acceptance speech, Rishab Shetty emphasized the significance of films in bringing about societal change. “Every film has an impact. Our motive is to make films that bring about change or impact in society… I thank the audience. National Awards are a very prestigious reward for an artist,” he said.

Kantara also secured the Best Popular Film award for providing wholesome entertainment. Notably, Rishab Shetty not only starred in but also directed the film. He is currently working on a prequel to Kantara.

Set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara tells the story of a Kambala champion who confronts a Forest Range officer. Released in September 2022, the film garnered widespread acclaim.

The 70th National Film Awards ceremony also recognized other outstanding talents. The Best Actress award in a Leading Role was jointly awarded to Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for Kutch Express. Sooraj R Barjatya received the Best Director award for Uunchai.

Initially scheduled for 2023, the announcement of the winners was delayed due to the Covid pandemic. Last year’s awards saw Allu Arjun, Alia Bhatt, and Kriti Sanon receiving honors for their performances in Pushpa, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Mimi, respectively.

This year’s National Film Awards underscored the diversity and richness of Indian cinema, celebrating films that have left an indelible mark on audiences.
