Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda, who was hospitalized after his licensed revolver misfired and struck him below the knee, is on the road to recovery. His wife, Sunita Ahuja, provided a health update to reporters outside CritiCare Asia hospital in Mumbai, stating that the actor would be discharged on Friday.
Govinda, a three-time Filmfare Award winner, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on Tuesday morning. His condition has improved significantly, and he will be shifted to a normal ward soon.
“He is better. We will admit him to the normal ward today. He is much better than yesterday, and will be discharged the day after tomorrow. With everyone’s blessings… he has recovered,” Mrs. Ahuja said, adding that the actor’s fans should not panic as he is fine.
According to Govinda’s manager, the incident occurred when the actor was putting the revolver back into a cupboard after cleaning it at 4:45 am. The gun accidentally fired, causing a leg wound. The manager rushed to Govinda’s home, and he was taken to the hospital.
The actor was scheduled to fly to Kolkata for a show with his manager but instead received medical attention. “It is due to God’s grace that Govinda ji sustained only a leg injury, and it was nothing serious,” his manager said.
Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who removed the bullet, confirmed that Govinda’s condition was stable and that he would be discharged soon. However, the doctor emphasized the need for the actor to rest for a month.
Since the news broke, Govinda’s fans have been worried, but the actor released an audio message thanking them for their prayers and the doctors for their medical aid. A steady stream of actors and cinema personalities have visited him in the hospital, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who had a telephone conversation with him.
