Ratan Tata, the renowned chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a Mumbai hospital, according to a Reuters report citing two sources with direct knowledge of the matter. This development comes despite Tata’s earlier assurance that his hospital stay was part of a routine medical checkup tied to his age and related health conditions.
On Monday, the 86-year-old industrialist took to social media to address rumors about his health, stating, “There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits.” He also urged the public and media to avoid spreading misinformation. However, concerns have escalated as his condition reportedly worsened.
Ratan Tata is a towering figure in Indian industry, having led Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and transforming the group into a global powerhouse through strategic acquisitions, including Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover. Under his leadership, the group also launched the Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car, and expanded its software services arm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), into a global IT leader.
Tata stepped down as chairman in 2012 but was later named chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and other group companies, including Tata Motors and Tata Steel. He briefly returned as interim chairman in 2016 during a leadership dispute.
As news of his critical condition spreads, fans and well-wishers are sending messages of support and recovery for the respected business leader.
